Salt Of The Earth

Lesson derived from Matthew 5, 13-15

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “ You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but put it on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.”

We as Christians are to be the “salt” and the “light” of the world. Like salt, we are adding flavor to people of the world who are void of Jesus. By being a “light” we are adding Jesus’ light and brightness to a darkened world. When you turn on the news there is so much darkness happening in our world today.

But, there is also a lot of good and kindness happening that unfortunately doesn’t make the news. There are so many kind things we can do in our own area, especially during this Christmas season. Even small things like buying someone’s coffee in line behind you, taking a lonely senior a meal, donating a toy for Toys for Tots. Buying a young single mom pizza for her family.

If you can’t afford to do any of these things you can donate your time at a soup kitchen, or a nursing home.  Just a few examples of bringing light and joy to others’ lives.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner it’s a perfect time to “Be the salt” and “Be the light! Just think, if every single person did just a small jester what a wonderful world this would be!
